The question
How does one person run a quiz for a hall full of students without losing the thread?
IgniteQuest keeps the state of the whole show on the server and gives the host one screen to drive it.
Why it exists
Made for live Python quiz events run by the RVCE Coding Club. The host runs the whole show from one laptop, and it replaces the slide deck and the paper score sheet.
How it works
The two phases of a quiz night
- 1
Registration
Teams sign up and receive a PIN.
- 2
Main Arena
Teams take turns in round-robin while the host reveals, locks, scores and uses lifelines.
- 3
Cutoff
The leaderboard picks the finalists. A tie across the cutoff goes to a host tiebreak.
- 4
Fastest Fingers
Team leaders answer on their phones, and the server times each answer.
- 5
Finale
The podium is revealed from third to first.
Decisions
The server owns the rules
One answer per team per question and one lifeline per type are enforced by database constraints, so a double tap cannot give a team two goes.
Phones receive a curated feed
Real-time updates are published as sanitised events instead of letting phones subscribe to tables, so a question reaches a phone without its correct option.
Scoring can be retried safely
Revealing an answer works out the change against any score already awarded, inside a transaction, so a second click does not double-score.
Ties are a decision for the host
A tie that straddles the finalist cutoff opens a tiebreak screen instead of being broken automatically.
